May Must Haves

May Must Haves
Oh my god, how is it the end of May already?! This year is just flying by! Well as it is the end of the month, it is time to resurrect my Monthly Must Haves. So without further ado, these are the fab items that I have been loving this month!

Haircare

haircare favourites

I have just bought my third lot of the L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology shampoo and conditioner, so it is safe to say I am loving them. My hair is already very thick, but I often feel I need a bit of a boost at my roots. This fab duo leaves my hair smelling great and feeling thicker and bouncier. Even my boyfriend has commented that his hair feels thicker!

I have also been loving the Aussie Miracle Recharge Conditioning Spray to keep my hair from getting dry and horrible. I have reviewed this bad boy for a guest post on Parie’s blog, Class and Glitter, which should be up very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for some haircare tips!

Makeup bag Essentials

Makeup Bag Favourites

Let’s first of all start with this beauty of a makeup bag from Primark. I love tribal prints and the monochrome fabric with the pop of bright yellow on the zip is summertime perfection for me. My current makeup bag needed an update and this one was calling out to me!

My lips always seem to get quite dry, and certain lipsticks make it worse, particularly matte finishes (sob), so my must have lip product is LUSH’s lip scrub. They come in a variety of flavours, but my fave is Mint Julips which is just like mint choc chip…yum! I have reviewed this before, so definitely check it out if you are considering popping this is your shopping basket.

Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Mascara could actually be my all time favourite mascara. Bold claim, I know. But this stuff works wonders! I did try Roller Lash when it came out, and if I’m honest, it didn’t really do it for me. A lot of people have said this baby is a great dupe for Roller Lash, but I actually think it is much better, plus it half the price. My lashes look so full and long that people have asked me if I am wearing false lashes!

Primark Fashion Nails

I’ve mentioned Primark’s £1 stick on nails before, but they have lots of super cute summer time patterns in store at the moment, I just couldn’t resist the little flaminigos and pastel icecream cones! They are the perfect way to jazz up an outfit if you don’t have time for a full mani. They are so easy to apply and they last for a good couple of days before they start to ping off.

Skincare

Pure Chimp Super Body Cream

I’m a huge fan of Purechimp products after trying out their Super Face Cream. Their products are completely natural and so they are ideal for those who have sensitive skin. Since I loved the face cream so much, I decided to purchase the body cream too. I’ve been stressed a lot at work recently, and this causes a dermatitis flare up (sorry if this is TMI!) on my elbows and fingers. This is really itchy and sore and can lead to my skin cracking and peeling. This fantastic cream can help to stop the rash plus it heals the cracked skin really fast. To put this into perspective, I had been applying a really rich hand cream to my sore fingers three or four times a day and was having no luck relieving it. I put this cream on once and the itching and soreness was gone overnight and within a few days it had healed. My sister gets the same thing and this is the only product that helps her out too. This really is a miracle cream if you suffer from skin allergies, I can’t recommend it enough.

Keri Smith Wreck This Journal

I recently won a copy of Keri Smith’s Wreck This Journal in a blog giveaway and I was so excited because I have wanted to get it for ages! The moment it came through the letterbox I began flicking through the pages looking at all the different ways I will be destroying it. I have already completed a few of the pages and once it is finished I will write a post showing you what I have done! I really recommend this for anyone who likes to be a bit creative – or destructive! It would make a fantastic present as well.

Why Soap and Glory’s Supercat liner doesn’t live up to the hype

Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner
So this is going to be a little controversial. I have seen this Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner all over the blogosphere for the last few months, and when I asked for recommendations for a new eyeliner in a bbloggers chat, numerous people recommended it to me. So naturally I assumed this was gong to be the greatest invention since MAC lipsticks and I picked one up to try out.

I tested one out on my hand in store and it seemed pretty good, I liked the felt tip nib and thought that application would be mess free, unlike some of my favourite gel based liners. So into the basket it went! I tried it out for work the very next morning, and as usual I went through the motions of my makeup routine, and after adding a delicate wash of eyeshadow, I reached for Supercat to create my go to flicks.
Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner
The first eye was ok. It wasn’t as black as I could have hoped for, but it was fairly easy to control the flick which is great for applying make up at the crack of dawn. But when I got to the second flick the colour was almost grey. Not the strong bold black that I wanted. I tried to go over the line a couple of times, and it did go a bit darker but it ended up bodging it slightly and it added an extra 5 minutes onto my routine – which is not great on a work day!

So the next morning I decided I would give it another go, I left the eyeshadow out this time to see if it made a difference. Just like last time, the first eye was ok, but by the second eye the colour was just as rubbish as the morning before. This is really frustrating because I expect eyeliner to be a solid colour and apply consistently. I have to come to the conclusion that the liner just can’t handle being applied on top of makeup, which is a shame as most people to wear a little something something underneath whether it is full on eyemakeup or just a touch of concealer.

Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner swatch

You can even see in the swatch above, that on bare skin the pigmentation is pretty naff with a fading toward the ends of the lines. For a shade called “carbon black extreme”, this just isn’t very black or extreme. Perhaps I have been spoiled by higher end liner, but for me, this just doesn’t hit the mark and I wont be continuing to use the Supercat eyeliner which is a shame as I had such high expectations for it.

What do you thing of Supercat? What eyeliner do you recommend?

My mini makeup haul

Beauty product haul

This month I decided to treat myself to a few beauty bits and bobs whilst on a shopping trip with my boyfriend. He was absolutely thrilled with traipsing after me through Boots and Superdrug, but at least I didn’t make him hang around outside the changing rooms in Primark while I tried on 1286473820 outfits! I did treat him to lunch though, so I think that more than makes up for it!

So on to the lovely goodies in my mini haul! One thing I have been absolutely dying to try out is the Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 1 palette which, as I’m sure you have already heard, is an amazing dupe for the Lorac Pro palette. I have already swatched this baby ready for a review and I am in love with the shades and the excellent quality for the price. If you haven’t got your hands on one of these babies yet, I really recommend it.

I also treated myself to two packs of stick on nails from Primark which are a godsend when you haven’t got time to paint your nails. You can see a great example of these nails in action in my post about my trip to the Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea in London. They have some really lovely designs at the moment, including the tropical print which is ideal for holidays as well as brightening up a dreary Britain! I also got these cute turquoise ones that just reminded me of mermaids so obviously I needed them….

I’m a big fan of the Real Techniques brushes and as I’m not a great lover of the blusher brush included in my Royal and Langnickel set, I thought I would try out the Real Techniques Blush Brush. I’m excited to give this beauty a go.

The last thing I bought was the Supercat liner from Soap and Glory to replace my Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner which has sadly run out. I’ve heard good things about this liner, so I am looking forward to giving it a go and seeing what all the fuss is about.

What beauty products have you treated yourself to recently? Have you tried any of these products?

Seven things from LUSH to add to your beauty wishlist

LUSH wishlist

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7
After a long and stressful day at work, I like nothing more than running myself a bath, popping in a bath bomb and catching up on some trash TV on Netflix. I am currently down to my last bar of Fun (which can be used as a bubble bar – hurrah!) so I thought it was about time I made myself a little Lush shopping list.
When you really need to relax after a hard day, the Twilight Bath Bomb needs to be your go to product. The scent is lavender based to aid relaxation and prepare you for bed time.
This isn’t any old scrub, oh no! You can use this in your hair too! Sounds a bit bizarre, but the primary ingredient is sea salt, making it the perfect product to cleanse and create volume . Hello mermaid hair…
This bath bomb contains space dust. Yes. That’s right, SPACE DUST! If you listen carefully you can hear it crackle as it spins around in the water. You have to admit, that is pretty cool! The scent is deliciously sweet and fruity.
Now this one is completely new to me. I’ve never used serum as part of my skin care routine – I know I am a terrible human being – so I think I should investigate what will work for my skin. This seems to be ideal for my combination skin as it moisturises dry areas but controls oil too. Just one thing putting me off though – the main ingredient is Portobello Mushroom. I have a thing about mushrooms, I find them completely repulsive, so not sure I want to rub this all over my face…. Let me know if you use this and how mushroomy it is!
5. Green Bubbleroon Bubble Bar, £3.65
I love a bubble bar, and this cute macaroon smells so summery and leaves skin feeling really soft. Plus as it is a bubble bar you can get about four uses out of it!
6. The Comforter Bubble Bar, £4.75
This is everyone’s holy grail bath product so I imagine it is on everyone’s LUSH wishlist! I love the gorgeous berry scent and how pink it turns the bath water. I also find that it lasts a while as you get a good amount of bubbles from a small chunk of the bar.
7. Karma Bubble Bar, £3.25
After The Comforter, this is probably my second favourite bubble bar due to the strong and sweet citrus smell. Again as this is a bubble bar you can get a good amount of use out of it.

What’s on your LUSH wishlist? Have you tried any of these products?

Barely there blush

Chanels Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial
I recently decided to treat myself to a new blusher and since I have never tried any Chanel beauty products I thought why not splurge a little as a treat! I actually picked up Chanel’s Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial at the airport on the way home from my trip to Berlin, so it was duty free which is always a bonus and definitely justifies the splurge (that’s what I am telling myself anyway…)

Since spring is the air I decided I wanted to go for this really pretty pink shade for the barely there blush look. The rosy pink colour has a touch of peach to it, especially in the sunlight, which is the perfect shade for me as I find peachy shades flattering for my pale skin. It has a slight gold shimmer but not enough that it is glittery and off putting thankfully. Once blended in the shimmer can hardly be seen and I find my skin looks more glowy and youthful rather than shiny.
The pigmentation is pretty much perfect for me. I’d go as far as saying it is the Goldilocks of blushers, not too much and not too little – just right! It is quite sheer and delicate, but it is very much buildable, so if you like a stronger look it is easily accomplished, but if like me you can be heavy handed with the blusher, this will be your best friend as there is no risk of looking like a clown.
Chanels Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial

The blusher comes in the standard black packaging with a little velvet pouch to keep it in if you are feeling fancy. The compact has a full sized mirror on the inside which is really helpful if you like to carry blusher in your handbag for touch ups. There is also a mini brush which is fine and definitely does the job for on the go use. I have noticed a couple of the bristles coming loose but nothing to complain about as I wouldn’t use the brush for everyday application.

If you are looking for a pretty spring blusher then I really recommend Chanel’s Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial for a natual hint of colour.

What is your go to blusher for spring? What Chanel products do you recommend?

Boost your locks with the Bblonde Lightening Spray by Jerome Russell

Bblonde Lightening Spray
My natural hair colour is a dark dirty blonde but from the age of about 13 I have regularly given my hair a colour injection, whether it was a full head of colour or some highlights. I have found this can be a nightmare to manage as my hair grows really quickly, so my roots show through after just a couple of weeks making dying my hair costly and time consuming. About six months ago I decided to leave my hair alone for a while and let it grow out naturally. So I was asked to try out Jerome Russell’s Bblonde Lightening Spray* I was ready and excited to try out something new.

After having a good look through pinterest for some hair inspiration I realised that I could use the Bblonde Lightening Spray to produce a soft and subtle ombre look. Creating this style was relatively straightforward. You need to concentrate the spray on the ends of your hair, and gradually spray less the further up your hair you go – much easier than using actual dye!
Ombre hair with Bblonde Lightening Spray
The spray should only be used by people with blonde to dark blonde hair, so if you are darker I really don’t recommend you try this because the colour you end up with might not be what you are looking for! Although if you have a dip dye then this would be great for lightening the ends.
The spray is designed to be applied to wet hair after washing and conditioning. I recommend using a good quality hair masque or conditioner to keep your hair soft. Then the bleach is activated by heat from blow drying your hair. The good news is that this product contains a heat protector, so you don’t need to spray any extra product before styling.
I’ve used the spray about five times now and I’ve managed to achieve a good amount of lightening on the bottom three quarters of my hair so I am pretty happy with this! If you want to lighten your hair up a few shades in time for summer then I recommend giving The Bblonde Lightening Spray a try. You can pick up a bottle for just £5.99 from Boots, and the good news is, they are currently doing a 3 for 2 offer on all haircare.

What to get your mum for Mother’s Day

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

Mother’s Day is just around the corner now, so if you have left it to the last minute to buy your mum a special something, then here are a few ideas to get you going!

1. Pink Grapefruit Large Yankee Candle Jar from Yankee Candle, £19.99

I treated myself to a medium sized jar of this flavour candle in January, and I have to say it is absolutely delicious smelling! I really love the fruity scents and I think that they are a good choice for mums as it isn’t too sickly and sweet. My mum hates floral scented things, especially lavender, so a fruity smelling candle would be right up her street. With so many different flavours on offer, it would be easy to find one that is suited to your mum’s taste too.

2. Blackberry Cake Stand from Marks and Spencer, £29.50

The Great British Bake Off has been back recently with special celebrity episodes for Comic Relief and every time the show is on our screens it seems that everyone is inspired to get baking. This cake stand is really pretty and if your mum doesn’t yet own one, perhaps now is the perfect time! You could treat her even more this Mother’s Day by getting your bake on and making an array of cute cupcakes to display on it.

3. Carrie Statement Pearl Earrings from Accessorize, £17

Mums love a bit of jewellery, and the best part is these Accessorize beauties wont break the bank. I love the pearl accents as they look really classy for statement earrings. These would be perfect for your mum to pair with pastels this spring, but would also look great with an LBD.

4. Dark Willow Picnic Hamper from John Lewis, £85

This picnic basket is absolutely divine! I honestly think this is a fantastic gift to buy for your mum if she doesn’t have one already. The Dark Willow Picnic Hamper caters for four people which is ideal for a little family jaunt to a park or the beach (obvs when the weather is better!) Plus there is even room for wine and you get a corkscrew included too – perfect!

5. Shea Butter Hand Cream from L’Occitane, £19

All woman love hand cream and in my opinion, L’Occitane make some cracking ones.Shea butter is one of my favourite body care ingredients as it treats all sorts of skin issues including dry, cracked and sore skin – so it is the perfect treat for mum’s hands.

6. Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum from Feel Unique, £35.10

If in doubt, perfume is always a good choice. I love this Jimmy Choo scent, and it is also one of my mum’s top picks. It smells amazing with a fruity and feminine base and woody depths, it is utterly lovely and I highly recommend it.

I hope this gives you a little bit of inspiration for your Mother’s Day shopping. I’ve got my present, just need to sort the card out now!

What gift would your mum prefer? What gift ideas do you have for mums?

The only lip liner you will ever need…

 Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil
It has been a while since I have posted any reviews here on Must Have Girl. I have been really busy at work and sometimes the last thing you feel like doing after a long day at work is planning blog posts and writing reviews. But now I am back and I will try to post as regularly as I can so I can get a bit of “me time” back into my life! So without further ado, today I am reviewing the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil in the shade Ozone.

I am (like most of you I’m sure) a lover of lipstick. I love bright and bold colours the most and throughout autumn and winter I like to wear darker colours such as MAC Rebel. I find that these darker shades often feathers around my lip line – not good. I’d much rather have a crisp line of colour and the way to achieve this is with lip liner to prevent the colour bleeding. However, owning enough lip liners to match with every shade of lippy I own would kill off my bank balance rapidly, so I went in search of a solution.
When I found out that clear lip liners were a real thing I swear I could have jumped for joy. One lip liner that does it all? It has to be too good to be true right? So I decided I would have to test it out for myself, so I quickly ordered the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil and hovered by the letterbox for the postie to deliver it!.
 Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil

The pencil glides on really smoothly with no tugging however I did find that it was slightly drying when applied to my whole lips. Even though it was quite drying, it did stop my lipstick from settling in the lines on my lips as much as it usually would which is great. The majority of times I use the pencil, I just use it on the outline of my lips to prevent feathering. I have tried it with several shades of lippy and it has worked wonders for all of them my lipstick has stayed on in a crisp line all day

The only thing that I don’t really like about this product is that you have to sharpen it. I much prefer twist up liners as it is faster, more convenient and less messy, but I like the formula so much it wouldn’t stop me from buying this liner again.

If you want to try out a clear liner too, you can get the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil in Ozone from Feel Unique for just £12.

Have you ever tried a clear lip liner? Which brand would you recommend?

5 reasons you should go back to basics with your cleanser

Lush Ultrabland cleanser

If you are up to date with my posts you will know that I often suffer from troublesome skin and I have tried all sorts of wonderful products in my battle to combat those pesky spots. But recently I have found myself wanting to strip my skincare routine right back to basics. I was previously using a micellar water, an eye make up remover and an astringent lotion to remove my make up and cleanse my skin but I found this process to be too time consuming, too many products and actually not very good. So when I was in Lush about a month ago I started speaking to one of the lovely girls who worked there about what I needed from a skincare product and she recommended that I try the Ultrabland Facial Cleanser.

What really sold me with this product it the fact that Lush founders have declared this their “number one desert island product”. The cleanser is very mild and feels like a thick almost buttery cream which melts down into an oily consistency. It is very rich and it feels so nourishing. Now I know we all love Lush for their amazing smelling bath bombs, soaps and shower gels however this is a very different product. I’ve read some negative reviews where people say it stink…it really doesn’t Personally I think the name is very apt because the scent is ultra bland. It is barely there, if anything it smells slightly of beeswax but it is really no noticeable of offensive. It is just very pure and not chemically or artificial smelling like a lot of cleansers

The product is typical of Lush, very natural based with no nasties in there to cause flare ups for those with sensitive skin. Ingredients include almond oil, rose water, beeswax and honey which are perfect for soothing and hydrating your skin. Although I have oily skin, I actually love oil based cleansers more than anything. They are amazing at removing heavy make up including waterproof mascara and eyeliner, and Ultrabland does not disappoint.

I apply a small amount of cream to dry skin and gently rub in to my skin in small circles. When I get to my eyes, I very gently smooth my fingertips in a downwards motion to coat the lids and lashes with the products and slide the liner and mascara away from my eyes. I like to look in the mirror at this point because you look like a scary ghost with big black panda eyes/face (depending on how crazy you get with the sliding technique) Sometimes if I’m feeling silly I will hide and try to scare him because I look ridiculous and I’m childish :) When I am done clowning around I dampen my hands slightly and rub over the product as it slightly emulsifies the oil and helps to lift grime and make up from your face. Then using a damp face cloth I wipe away the product gently and voila I am clean and have a naked face once more.

So here are my five reasons you should go back to basics with your cleanser:

  1. It is fantastic at removing all traces of make up, not matter how heavy it its.
  2. Ultrabland is so gentle and it has never irritated my skin. If you are prone to allergic reasons or sensitivities to skincare products I really recommend you try his out.
  3. The antibacterial properties of this cleanser have really helped keep breakouts at bay.
  4. Thanks to the almond oil and honey it is a very moisturising cleanser and it leaves my skin feeling plump and soft after cleansing.
  5. Aside from preservatives, the cleanser is made with natural ingredients that have been selected for their fantastic properties so you avoid slathering chemicals all your face.
If you are persuaded to go back to basics with your cleansing routine, you can pick up the Ultrabland Facial Cleanser from Lush. It is available in two sizes, 45g for £7.25 and 100g for £11.50.
Are you convinced to strip back to basics? What Lush skincare products do you rate?
