The Jewellery Edit

After a long time away from my blog due to starting a new job and being really busy I have finally returned and I am so excited to get back into the swing of things.

I thought I’d start things off with a little post about some jewellery that I am currently lusting after. Like most girls, I am a huge fan of the sparkly stuff because it always completes an outfit – even a simple t-shirt and jeans combo.

So here are a few of my favourite pieces this month, hope you enjoy!

1 – Purple Mix Gem Chandelier Drop Earrings from Chelsea Doll, £10

With statement necklaces being a huge jewellery trend over the last few years I often find myself neglecting my earring collection. I am hoping to start collecting a few interesting pairs to wear with my hair up and I love these Chelsea Doll beauties. Anything pastel is a clear winner in my books and with the trend due to continue throughout the autumn I think these are a great transitional piece.

2 – CLARAMAE Pink Crystal Druzy Ring from Rock ‘N Rose, £22

I adore druzy rings, I don’t know if it stems back to my childhood when I liked to collect sparkly gemstones (I am such a magpie). I love that every ring is unique as the colour and shape varies due to it being a natural stone.

3 – AMELIA Statement Necklace from Dolly Bow Bow, £14

Dolly Bow Bow’s necklaces are always stunning and I think that this Amelia statement necklace might just be my favourite so far. I think that this would work well with a pastel dress for a wedding or event and come the autumn, will look great with jumpers in complementary pastel hues.

4 – Dark Blue Clustered Gem Choker Necklace from New Look, £9.99

Sometimes bright and bold is the way to go, and this New Look statement choker necklace is a winner for me. Bright blues like this really suit my colour palate and I think this would be great to smarten up jeans and a white shirt or t-shirt.

5 – Zodiac sign Pendant from Amelia May, £10

I love a quirky pendant to add some intrigue to a simple top or dress and this Zodiac necklace from Amelia May caught my eye. I’m not a believer of star signs and horoscopes, but I think that this is great for those who are, or those who are looking for something a little bit different.

6 – Fine Filigree Tassel Earrings from ASOS, £8

I am always on the look out for interesting black earrings because they go with absolutely everything. The tassels on these are very cute and would look great with an up do for a night out instead of a statement necklace.

Which of these pieces is your favourite? What shops are you loving for statement jewellery right now?

Original Sugar Nail Art Review*

Image of Original Sugar Nail Art Products

You may remember my post in September about my visit to Olympia Beauty, here I met a lovely lady called Rebecca, who is not only one of the UK’s leading nail artist, but also works for nail art brand Original Sugar. Rebecca was kind enough to let me sample a few of the Original Sugar hero products so I could tell you all about them.

Velveteen in ‘Black Jack’

The Velveteen Range consists of four different seasonal colour collections, which is great if you like to swap your nail colours to match the  season. I tried out Velveteen in ‘Black Jack’ and I was excited to try out this product as I had seen similar products in the shops but always thought that I would just make a mess of it! However this was so simple to apply and it is a really easy nail art look for every nail or even just statement nails if you want to mix up your textures.
To apply the Velveteen, I firstly used a base coat, then applied a black nail polish (I used Barry M in ‘Black’) to make sure there was a good depth of colour. While the polish was drying I poured some of the Velveteen into a small plastic bag ready for dipping! I then coated my nails in a layer of top coat and immediately dipped my nail into the bag. I gave it a little shake around to make sure all of my nail was coated. When I removed my finger from the bag it looked a little messy, but this was easily solved by wiping the skin around the nail with a damp piece of kitchen towel to remove the fluffy Velveteen that had settled there.

I think that the Velveteen is a really good way to add some texture into your nail art and would look great either on all nails of as a statement nail to contrast a high shine black polish. I think Velveteen works particularly well for this time of the year as it looks quite cosy and comforting, perfect for Autumn!
When I first saw the bottle of Foil I wasn’t very impressed as I imagined it to be like putting kitchen foil on your nails.. However when I actually took a piece of it out of the bottle I realised I was very much mistaken! This is not at all like kitchen foil, but instead more like silver leaf. It is very thin, soft and delicate. There is many different ways to incorporate the foil into your nail art, but I chose to tear some into tiny pieces to create a delicate pattern on top of black polish.
As with the Velveteen, I applied a base coat and two coats of black polish, then a layer of top coat to place the pieces of foil into. I used some tweezers to tear up the foil into tiny pieces and carefully apply them to the nail using very little pressure to add them to the top coat layer. When I was happy with the design I added another layer of topcoat to seal the foils in.

I thought that this was going to be my least favourite of the four products, but actually this was my favourite in the end, and I will definitely be using this again in my nail art projects. I think that this looks like a silver leopard print pattern, or similar to rhinestones. It was really easy to apply so I think that this is a great product for a newcomer to nail art to try. I really recommend this lovely product, especially as it comes in ‘Gold’ and ‘Bronze’ too!
I have tried caviar nail art beads before and the think that used to really frustrate me is that they are not colour safe so you can’t apply a topcoat to keep them firmly in place and prevent them all falling off in less than 24 hours! The last time I used a product like this I ended up having to wash my hair wearing plastic gloves as my hair snagged painfully in between the beads (ouch!). I vowed never again…until I met Rebecca, and she told me that the Original Sugar Bullionaire beads are much better, and for two very simple reasons: they are smaller and so they look more delicate, and lastly, but most importantly they are made of glass which contains the colour on the inside thus you can put as much top coat as you please on them and they are completely colour-safe! Hallelujah!

To apply Bullionaire, once again I used a base coat, followed by two layers of a nail polish in a similar colour, I used No 7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour in ‘Foxglove’. While the nail polish was still wet and with a plate underneath my hand ready to catch the mess, I gently poured the Bullionaire beads over the nail and then lightly pressed them down to secure them. Make sure your whole nail is covered and there are no beads hanging of the edges of your nails. You can then cover the beads with a layer of topcoat to make your mani last longer.
I loved the colour of these Bullionaire beads and I am so impressed that they are colour-safe so your mani will last a lot longer than other caviar bead products. There are ten gorgeous fruit inspired colours on offer so you are guaranteed to find one to match your outfit. Perfect!

I am a big fan of anything glittery so I was very excited when I saw the bottle of Confetti! The colour ‘RSVP’ is a bright red which instantly made me think that this is the perfect nail art product for Christmas nails! The Confetti range is available in four other colours, ‘Big Day‘ a white glitter, ‘Celebration, a gold glitter, ‘Hangover‘ a blue glitter, and ‘25th‘ a silver glitter. All of which wold be the perfect accessory to add a touch of sparkle to your outfit for a special event.
Image of Original Sugar's Nail Confetti
Now I didn’t do a great job of applying the Confetti to my nails… in fact I made a bit of a mess with it! But next time I think it will be easier to apply. You apply it in the same way as the Bullionaire beads, but the glitter sometimes overlaps onto the skin as they are quite chunky pieces! As I was pressing the glitter into my nail polish I didnt notice these pieces until after it was firmly set in place.. woops! So next time I use Confetti I will be sure to check the glitter looks neatly position before pressing it into place.
The only this I didn’t like about Confetti is that unfortunately it isn’t color-safe and you can see in the image below that the red has come off some of the glitter flecks. However I would probably use Confetti for a night out where I was just wearing it for that night, so I wouldn’t really need to use a top coat on the product anyway!

Overall I really liked these lovely nail art products from Original Sugar so I would recommend them to anyone who is a fan of nail art and wants to try using some textures on their nails to create an interesting look this season. I think they will be a fantastic compliment to any outfit with the upcoming Christmas Party season, and they would also make great stocking fillers. (I really need to stop thinking about Christmas now!)
If you want to try out these lovely Original Sugar products you can purchase them from their website, where Velveteen retails for £4.95-£5.95, Foil for £3.50, Bullionaire is £5.95 and Confetti is £3.95. Each bottle will arrive inside a lovely little Organza bag. You can also find plenty of information on the website to learn how to apply these products to your own nails and follow step-by-step guides to create some amazing nail art.
What do you think of the Original Sugar Nail Art products? Which is your favourite? How would you wear them?

Yasmin’s Questions

1. What is your favourite Make up Look?

When I go on a night out, my go to make up look is a smokey eye with winged liner and false lashes, the more dramatic the better.

2. What is your favourite TV Show? (it can be soap or series or anything!)

At the moment I am completely hooked on Breaking Bad, I can’t believe I have only started watching it this summer, I have been missing out! If you haven’t been watching it you seriously need to get it into your life!

3. List your top 3 high street brands that you love?

New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Primark! I probably buy the majority of my clothes from these stores as they are really affordable and they always seem to have cute dresses that I love!

4. What is the best gift you have ever received?

My parents and my sister got me a lovely ring for my graduation from university. I didn’t take it off for 3 months because I love it so much, but now I’m scared of losing it so I’m saving it for nice occasions only!

5. What is your much-loved colour lipstick and brand?

MAC MAC MAC! Always MAC, at the moment my favourite colour is Crosswires, I love coral shades and think they are great for summer, but also in the winter to brighten up darker outfit choices. I am lusting after Shy Girl right now, so I think that will have to be a cheeky purchase this month!

6. Do you prefer heels or flats?

I love heels, but I find them so uncomfortable if I’m honest…I am definitely a flats girl through and through.

7. What one item of clothing can you not live without?

My black leather biker jacket. So comfy and goes with just about everything. It has nice stud detailing on the shoulders which means it is still on trend this season.

8. What would be your dream job?

I would really love to work in PR or Marketing somewhere in London. I am currently interning at a Beauty PR agency in London, and I am loving it so I am really excited about what the future holds for me!

9. What word describes you best?

Laura :) I’m no good at these type of questions, sorry!!

10. If you were given a free 2 week holiday what destination would you choose?

Mexico! I have been twice before but I think it is the most amazing place for young people. Not only are the beaches beautiful, but there is so much to do there too. The eco parks are amazing, you can snorkel in lagoons filled with lots of types of fish, swim with dolphins, swim in underground caves and jump from cliff into a river if you want! The nightlife in Cancun is fantastic too and hosts the best club in the world Coco Bongos. Imagine acrobatics, West End Musical numbers, Club Classics, more cocktails and shots than you could ever want, your favourite film characters and tonnes of balloons all in one room … and that just about that sums it up!

11. What made you choose the name for your blog?

It took me forever to come up with Must Have Girl. I tried about a million different ideas but most were taken and the rest were silly. I finally settled on Must Have Girl because I am always lusting after beauty and fashion pieces that for me are Must Haves, so I think that it sums me up quite nicely!

September Must-Haves

Collage of Must Have Girl's September Must Haves
There are so many things on my wish list this month, but unfortunately I am pretty strapped for cash right now so they are going to have to remain wishes… but a girl can dream right? I thought I would show you just a few of the things that I am lusting after this month.

I absolutely love this dress! Ever since the new Great Gatsby film came out earlier this year, I have been obsessing about anything remotely 1920s, and this flapper dress is beautiful. I love the intricate Art Deco style bead work and the scalloped hemline, it creates a new (or old!) take on the LBD. For £95 it is a little bit pricey, but it is so pretty that I think it is well worth the money.
I have been on the lookout for a new concealer for ages, I often find it difficult to find a balance between price and coverage as I am on a tight budget at the moment. However, I swatched this in Boots on Monday, and for such a low price, I thought that it had a very nice level of coverage. The concealer is a cream texture that is very pigmented, so on application to the skin it covers any blemishes. I have freckles on my hands, and the concealer completely covered them, so I imagine that it would work wonders on dark under eye circles and spots. I think this is great value for money and I would have definitely bought it there and then if they had ‘fair‘ in stock.
I am a huuuuge fan of MAC lipsticks and I have been lusting over this gorgeous pinky/purple hue for a while now. The lipstick is very blue toned, so I think that this is a great colour to liven up darker Autumn/Winter outfits. These lipsticks have great pigment, last for hours and are very moisturising on the lips, so I know that this will be worth it I have just had my birthday and was kindly given a MAC voucher, so I think this shade will have to be one of my purchases!
I have been after a new pair of winter boots for the last couple of weeks, and I have been trying to find some Chelsea Boots, but I just haven’t found the perfect comfy pair yet. So in the meantime I have found this lovely pair from Topshop which I think would be great to go with most Autumn and Winter outfits. I love suede, but I always worry about ruining it if I get caught in the rain, so I think I will probably end up opting for a leather pair, but I still love these boots too… decisions!!
I have been after a new bag for a few months, but I have been biding my time hoping I land my dream job so I can treat myself to a nice designer number…but sadly that hasn’t happened yet, so I am going to go for the next best thing: Zara. I love Zara bags, I always think they look a lot more expensive than they actually are. I really like the boxy look of this bag and think it would be perfect to team with any outfit this Autumn, and for only £29.99, I think this is a steal!
So those were my September Must-Haves, now I just have to get my hands on them….
What do you think of my choices? What are your September Must-Haves?
