Go nude with Kate Moss

Kate Moss Nudes Collection

Every blogger and their mum has been on about the Rimmel Kate Nude Collection since it launched and I am a big fan of her regular collection – 107 is pretty much perfection, amirite? So obviously I needed get my hands on a couple and try them for myself.

Now I’m usually more of a bright colour kinda girl, I’m currently rocking MAC Morange as I type, so you can’t really get much brighter. I literally only have one nude shade in my collection and while I like it, I don’t really reach for it that often. But I am always one to try something new, so after browsing the new Kate Nude shades, I  decided why the hell not!

Kate Moss Nudes shades

After swatching all of the shades they had in stock, I selected shade 40, as the display said it suits all skin tones, and 45, which suits cool skin tones. Shade 40 is pretty much your typical nude shade, pale with yellow undertones and shade 45 is a blue-toned dusky pink.

I pretty much ran home to photograph them so I could try them on my lips immediately. First of all, I’m loving the packaging, it really helps to distinguish the shade I want as I usually have about 10 lipsticks rolling around in my handbag at any one time.

Swatch - Kate Moss Nudes

Sadly, I’m not a huge lover of shade 40. I’m very pale skinned with fair hair and so this just washes me out. I’m gutted as I’ve seen photos of others wearing it and it looks beautiful on them. I do however love the other shade. The dusky pink hue really makes this a “your lips but better” shade. Plus it is so wearable because it goes with everything. This will be a firm favourite in my lipstick collection from now on.

The durability is similar to the other Kate Moss lipsticks. It is good for a drugstore collection, but not as good as a higher end product. Because it is a lighter shade there is no stain left behind on the lips so I’d need to reapply about three times in the day to prevent it from wearing off completely.

Overall I’m really impressed with the collection and the range of shades available. I’m gutted the lighter shade doesn’t suit me, but that’s life! It’s currently buy one get one half price in Boots, so you may as well try them out yourself!

Have you tried the Kate Nude collection?

July Must Haves

July favourites

July has completely flown by and I can’t believe it is August already?! I’ve had a pretty busy month, and if you are a regular reader or you follow me on Instagram, you will know I have been trying to balance blogging with, day trips, BBQs, nights out, concerts and busy days at work – no wonder this month has whizzed by! Anyway, today I’m sharing with you my July Must Haves.Continue Reading . . .

Why you need Makeup Revolution’s Golden Sugar Ultra Professional Blush Palette in your life

Makeup Revolution Blush Packaging
I want to just start by saying if you’ve not yet tried any Makeup Revolution products, where have you been!? You need to shimmy on down to Superdrug (or order online – but shimmying is fun too…) because they are FAB. Seriously, every product I’ve tried, I love, ’nuff said. The first item I picked up was a single blusher in the shade Now! and I legit wear it almost every day. I’m obsessed. So when I spotted the Golden Sugar Ultra Professional Blush Palette on the Makeup Revolution stand, I practically skipped off to the till.

Makeup Revolution Blush Palette Golden Sugar

Can we just take a moment to admire how beautiful the Golden Sugar Palette is? Every shade is just perfection. The baked texture of the shimmers looks stunning, especially with the darker veins of pigment running throughout. The palette is made up of eight shades, including a highlighter, a matte bronzer, shimmer bronzer and shimmer blushers. Seeing as the whole palette costs just £6, each shade is literally pennies. Bargain! I think it would be the perfect thing to take on holiday to avoid bringing stacks of different shades, there is enough in here to be getting on with and even to contour if that’s what floats your boat. The packaging is sleek and black and contains a huge mirror in the lid (again perfect for holidays when you might not have your usual makeup mirror).

Makeup Revolution Blush Golden Sugar

The shades themselves are so beautiful and pure perfection for the summer thanks to the sunning warm tones, especially the bronzey ones – they will look fab with a suntan. Not only do you have highlighter, blusher and bronzer in this palette, all the shades can be worn as eye shadow too. I just love a multi-tasker!

Makeup Revolution Blush Golden Sugar

You can see the beautiful shades swatched above and as you can see they are pretty pigmented. Some shades needed a little more work than others but the darker ones will only require a light hand for a decent colour pay-off. I prefer the two pinky shades as blusher, but I am obsessed with the bronze coloured shades for eye shadow so this palette is quickly becoming a firm favourite in my make up bag. For £6 you really can’t go wrong with this beauty, so it is well worth trying out in my opinion!

May Must Haves

May Must Haves
Oh my god, how is it the end of May already?! This year is just flying by! Well as it is the end of the month, it is time to resurrect my Monthly Must Haves. So without further ado, these are the fab items that I have been loving this month!

Haircare

haircare favourites

I have just bought my third lot of the L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology shampoo and conditioner, so it is safe to say I am loving them. My hair is already very thick, but I often feel I need a bit of a boost at my roots. This fab duo leaves my hair smelling great and feeling thicker and bouncier. Even my boyfriend has commented that his hair feels thicker!

I have also been loving the Aussie Miracle Recharge Conditioning Spray to keep my hair from getting dry and horrible. I have reviewed this bad boy for a guest post on Parie’s blog, Class and Glitter, which should be up very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for some haircare tips!

Makeup bag Essentials

Makeup Bag Favourites

Let’s first of all start with this beauty of a makeup bag from Primark. I love tribal prints and the monochrome fabric with the pop of bright yellow on the zip is summertime perfection for me. My current makeup bag needed an update and this one was calling out to me!

My lips always seem to get quite dry, and certain lipsticks make it worse, particularly matte finishes (sob), so my must have lip product is LUSH’s lip scrub. They come in a variety of flavours, but my fave is Mint Julips which is just like mint choc chip…yum! I have reviewed this before, so definitely check it out if you are considering popping this is your shopping basket.

Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Mascara could actually be my all time favourite mascara. Bold claim, I know. But this stuff works wonders! I did try Roller Lash when it came out, and if I’m honest, it didn’t really do it for me. A lot of people have said this baby is a great dupe for Roller Lash, but I actually think it is much better, plus it half the price. My lashes look so full and long that people have asked me if I am wearing false lashes!

Primark Fashion Nails

I’ve mentioned Primark’s £1 stick on nails before, but they have lots of super cute summer time patterns in store at the moment, I just couldn’t resist the little flaminigos and pastel icecream cones! They are the perfect way to jazz up an outfit if you don’t have time for a full mani. They are so easy to apply and they last for a good couple of days before they start to ping off.

Skincare

Pure Chimp Super Body Cream

I’m a huge fan of Purechimp products after trying out their Super Face Cream. Their products are completely natural and so they are ideal for those who have sensitive skin. Since I loved the face cream so much, I decided to purchase the body cream too. I’ve been stressed a lot at work recently, and this causes a dermatitis flare up (sorry if this is TMI!) on my elbows and fingers. This is really itchy and sore and can lead to my skin cracking and peeling. This fantastic cream can help to stop the rash plus it heals the cracked skin really fast. To put this into perspective, I had been applying a really rich hand cream to my sore fingers three or four times a day and was having no luck relieving it. I put this cream on once and the itching and soreness was gone overnight and within a few days it had healed. My sister gets the same thing and this is the only product that helps her out too. This really is a miracle cream if you suffer from skin allergies, I can’t recommend it enough.

Keri Smith Wreck This Journal

I recently won a copy of Keri Smith’s Wreck This Journal in a blog giveaway and I was so excited because I have wanted to get it for ages! The moment it came through the letterbox I began flicking through the pages looking at all the different ways I will be destroying it. I have already completed a few of the pages and once it is finished I will write a post showing you what I have done! I really recommend this for anyone who likes to be a bit creative – or destructive! It would make a fantastic present as well.

Why Soap and Glory’s Supercat liner doesn’t live up to the hype

Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner
So this is going to be a little controversial. I have seen this Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner all over the blogosphere for the last few months, and when I asked for recommendations for a new eyeliner in a bbloggers chat, numerous people recommended it to me. So naturally I assumed this was gong to be the greatest invention since MAC lipsticks and I picked one up to try out.

I tested one out on my hand in store and it seemed pretty good, I liked the felt tip nib and thought that application would be mess free, unlike some of my favourite gel based liners. So into the basket it went! I tried it out for work the very next morning, and as usual I went through the motions of my makeup routine, and after adding a delicate wash of eyeshadow, I reached for Supercat to create my go to flicks.
Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner
The first eye was ok. It wasn’t as black as I could have hoped for, but it was fairly easy to control the flick which is great for applying make up at the crack of dawn. But when I got to the second flick the colour was almost grey. Not the strong bold black that I wanted. I tried to go over the line a couple of times, and it did go a bit darker but it ended up bodging it slightly and it added an extra 5 minutes onto my routine – which is not great on a work day!

So the next morning I decided I would give it another go, I left the eyeshadow out this time to see if it made a difference. Just like last time, the first eye was ok, but by the second eye the colour was just as rubbish as the morning before. This is really frustrating because I expect eyeliner to be a solid colour and apply consistently. I have to come to the conclusion that the liner just can’t handle being applied on top of makeup, which is a shame as most people to wear a little something something underneath whether it is full on eyemakeup or just a touch of concealer.

Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner swatch

You can even see in the swatch above, that on bare skin the pigmentation is pretty naff with a fading toward the ends of the lines. For a shade called “carbon black extreme”, this just isn’t very black or extreme. Perhaps I have been spoiled by higher end liner, but for me, this just doesn’t hit the mark and I wont be continuing to use the Supercat eyeliner which is a shame as I had such high expectations for it.

What do you thing of Supercat? What eyeliner do you recommend?

My mini makeup haul

Beauty product haul

This month I decided to treat myself to a few beauty bits and bobs whilst on a shopping trip with my boyfriend. He was absolutely thrilled with traipsing after me through Boots and Superdrug, but at least I didn’t make him hang around outside the changing rooms in Primark while I tried on 1286473820 outfits! I did treat him to lunch though, so I think that more than makes up for it!

So on to the lovely goodies in my mini haul! One thing I have been absolutely dying to try out is the Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 1 palette which, as I’m sure you have already heard, is an amazing dupe for the Lorac Pro palette. I have already swatched this baby ready for a review and I am in love with the shades and the excellent quality for the price. If you haven’t got your hands on one of these babies yet, I really recommend it.

I also treated myself to two packs of stick on nails from Primark which are a godsend when you haven’t got time to paint your nails. You can see a great example of these nails in action in my post about my trip to the Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea in London. They have some really lovely designs at the moment, including the tropical print which is ideal for holidays as well as brightening up a dreary Britain! I also got these cute turquoise ones that just reminded me of mermaids so obviously I needed them….

I’m a big fan of the Real Techniques brushes and as I’m not a great lover of the blusher brush included in my Royal and Langnickel set, I thought I would try out the Real Techniques Blush Brush. I’m excited to give this beauty a go.

The last thing I bought was the Supercat liner from Soap and Glory to replace my Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner which has sadly run out. I’ve heard good things about this liner, so I am looking forward to giving it a go and seeing what all the fuss is about.

What beauty products have you treated yourself to recently? Have you tried any of these products?

Barely there blush

Chanels Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial
I recently decided to treat myself to a new blusher and since I have never tried any Chanel beauty products I thought why not splurge a little as a treat! I actually picked up Chanel’s Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial at the airport on the way home from my trip to Berlin, so it was duty free which is always a bonus and definitely justifies the splurge (that’s what I am telling myself anyway…)

Since spring is the air I decided I wanted to go for this really pretty pink shade for the barely there blush look. The rosy pink colour has a touch of peach to it, especially in the sunlight, which is the perfect shade for me as I find peachy shades flattering for my pale skin. It has a slight gold shimmer but not enough that it is glittery and off putting thankfully. Once blended in the shimmer can hardly be seen and I find my skin looks more glowy and youthful rather than shiny.
The pigmentation is pretty much perfect for me. I’d go as far as saying it is the Goldilocks of blushers, not too much and not too little – just right! It is quite sheer and delicate, but it is very much buildable, so if you like a stronger look it is easily accomplished, but if like me you can be heavy handed with the blusher, this will be your best friend as there is no risk of looking like a clown.
Chanels Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial

The blusher comes in the standard black packaging with a little velvet pouch to keep it in if you are feeling fancy. The compact has a full sized mirror on the inside which is really helpful if you like to carry blusher in your handbag for touch ups. There is also a mini brush which is fine and definitely does the job for on the go use. I have noticed a couple of the bristles coming loose but nothing to complain about as I wouldn’t use the brush for everyday application.

If you are looking for a pretty spring blusher then I really recommend Chanel’s Joues Contraste Powder Blush in the shade Rose Initial for a natual hint of colour.

What is your go to blusher for spring? What Chanel products do you recommend?

How Vichy Dermablend foundation has improved my confidence

Vichy Dermablend foundation

I am usually quite reluctant to try out new foundations, I have been using MAC Studio Fix Fluid for years now as I love the buildable coverage. However I do find that for me, it can slightly exacerbate oil production and I regularly have to blot to avoid looking greasier than a chip pan. Whilst I have found some products that help reduce this, namely La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat moisturiser – I felt like an improvement could be made. So after reading lots of reviews I decided to try out Vichy Dermablend foundation.

Vichy Dermablend foundation

I know that I am a MAC NC15 so I used Temptalia’s Foundation Matrix to work out which shade I needed. If you have not used this tool before it is amazing. You can find hundreds of products on there so it really makes changing foundation easy as pie. So relying on the matrix I went with shade 15 Opal and I was pretty worried that it would be too dark. When I opened the tube I squeezed a tiny amount on the back of my hand and I was a little scared I’d look tangoed, but once I applied it to my face it blended in seamlessly and it is truly the perfect shade for me! I used my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to buff in the foundation and I have to say it applies like a dream.

I worked in thin layers and built up the product on areas that needed a little more attention. I found that it was so high coverage that I could use it like a concealer. I switched to my Royal and Langnickel concealer brush and applied a small amount around my eye area and it really improved the appearance of my awful dark circles. The product is quite creamy but has quite a matte finish – I felt like I didn’t need to use as much powder to set it.

If you have read some of my other reviews, you will know that I have previously suffered from bad skin, whilst my complexion has improved a lot over the last six months or so, I still struggle sometimes with my chin area. So the real test for this foundation was if it could conceal the redness and blemishes that I suffer from. I decided the best way to do this was to take before and after photos to see if the coverage is really all it has been cracked up to be. Now I feel a bit self-conscious about these photos as it is not something that I really want the world to see, but if it helps someone else with skin that isn’t perfect then that’s fine by me.

Before

No Make up - blemishes and redness on chin area
Please excuse the towel!!

After

Vichy Dermablend foundation after photo

As you can see in the after photo, the redness, pores and blemishes are much less visible and my skin tone looks even. I was thrilled with the result and I think that the level of coverage is great. I have worn this almost every day now since I bought it and my make up still looks good after a long say of work, my skin is less oily that it was before and I feel more confident. So in my books this is a winner and I will definitely repurchase when I run out.

If you are tempted to give Vichy Dermablend foundation a try, you can purchase it from Boots for £16 or from Feel Unique for £17.

Have you tried Vichy Dermablend before? What foundations to you recommend for high coverage?

Sleek i-Divine Storm Palette review

Sleek i-Divine Storm Palette
I recently treated myself to the Sleek i-Divine Storm Palette whilst on a cheeky little shopping trip with my sister. I have been after one of their palettes for a long time and I simply fell in love with the gorgeous metallic shades and I know this palette will be a firm favourite through the autumn and winter, especially with Halloween and Christmas parties on the horizon.

The Storm palette contains 12 gorgeous shades, with 3 mattes and 9 metallics with beautiful shimmer particles. The shades are perfect for all occasions with the top row great for everyday looks and the bottom row perfect for creating a bold evening look.

Sleek i-Divine Storm Palette
The shadows are highly pigmented considering the price point and I think the colour pay-off is fantastic. I haven’t experienced any creasing and I’ve found them to be very long wearing which is great for nights out and us girls who are always on the go. My particular favourites are the metallic green (Storm Cloud) and blue (Electric Storm) which can be used for a great twist on the classic smokey eye.

Sleek i-Divine Storm Palette

The palette comes with a sponge applicator, which personally I hate! Each to their own though! I have been applying the shadows with my Royal and Langnickel brush set and I’ve found them really easy to blend out. However, I have experienced a little bit of fall out during the application, so I tend to do my eyes before by base when using these shades.

I really love how pigmented and beautiful these shades look so I’d really recommend the Sleek i-Divine Storm Palette for those who love their metallics. You can get yours from the Sleek website or from Superdrug for just £7.99 which I think for the quality, is a bargain!

Have you tried any of the Sleek palettes before?
